from
Entrepreneurs In Residence (EIRs) and Investors In Residence (IIRs)
I. Overview
The University of California Merced Office of Research and Economic Development (ORED) invites expressions of interest from experienced entrepreneurs and investors who are interested in joining our dynamic team as Entrepreneurs In Residence (EIRs) or Investors In Residence (IIRs). This initiative is designed to leverage the unique skills and insights of seasoned professionals to foster innovation, drive economic growth, and support startup ecosystems within and around the Central Valley region.
II. Program Objectives
- Pre-Startup Outreach: EIRs will meet with faculty and other potential entrepreneurs to discuss their research activities, assist in recognizing scalable and salable opportunities and discuss pathways to commercialization.
- Mentorship and Guidance: EIRs and IIRs will provide mentorship and strategic advice to startups and early-stage companies, helping them navigate the challenges of business development, technology innovation, and market penetration.
- Networking Facilitation: Utilize their networks to facilitate connections between startups and potential customers, partners, and investors.
- Investment Opportunities: IIRs will actively engage in identifying and securing funding opportunities for promising ventures, enhancing their growth potential and sustainability.
III. Expectations from EIRs and IIRs
- Active Engagement: Candidates should be prepared to commit to a term of residence that involves active participation in the development of startups, including regular interactions and progress reviews.
- Experience Sharing: Bring a wealth of experience and knowledge in entrepreneurship, investment, and business strategy that can be shared with new and growing businesses.
- Community Building: Help build a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem by promoting a culture of innovation and collaboration.
IV. Desired Qualifications
- Proven Track Record: Significant experience as an entrepreneur or investor, with a strong history of successful business ventures or investments.
- Industry Expertise: Deep knowledge in industries relevant to regenerative agriculture, water, climate, renewable energy, biotechnology, or related fields.
- Educational Contribution: Willingness to participate in workshops, seminars, and other educational activities to transfer knowledge to up-and-coming entrepreneurs.
