Stem Cell Instrumentation Foundry (SCIF)

The SCIF at UC Merced was established in 2011 with grant funds from the California Institute of Regenerative Medicine, the taxpayer funded institute that was approved by California voters in 2004 (Proposition 71). We provide basic and advanced user training on all our instrumentation, operator assistance, and data analysis support. The SCIF has three functional areas that provide services to UC Merced investigators as well as regional partners.

1. Cleanroom: Provides state-of-the-art resources for microfabrication. The cleanroom has class 1000 and class 100 rooms with the resources necessary for generating lab-on-a-chip devices.
2. Flow Cytometry and Cell Sorting: Provides investigators with assistance in using flow cytometry, the powerful single-cell analysis tool, purifying live cells, and support with high-dimensional data analysis.
3. Microcopy: Provides laser scanning confocal microscopy and atomic force microscopy.

The tour will highlight the cleanroom and demonstrate flow cytometric analysis and sorting of live mouse blood cells.
