Department of Animal Research Services (DARS)

 

The UC Merced Department of Animal Research Services is a team of professionals committed to the advancement of science in collaboration with the research community by promoting the humane care and use of animals used in biomedical research and teaching.

The Department of Animal Research Services (DARS) provides animal husbandry and veterinary services to the research community at UC Merced through the following actions:

  • Providing space and equipment to meet the needs of diverse research programs.
  • Providing quality, humane care for research and teaching animals in the most cost effective and efficient manner.
  • Providing veterinary care to research animals as outlined in the Animal Welfare Act, the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, and the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine.
  • Provide personable, quality customer services to the research community.
  • Provide teaching and training opportunities to animal users to promote the appropriate use of animals in research and teaching.
