Shared Core Research Facilities

    1. Biostatistics and Data Support (BDS)
      1. Overview: The HSRI Biostatistics and Data Support Center provides the following services to U.C. Merced faculty, students, and other researchers, as well as non-U.C. community partners (affiliates): Comprehensive statistical and data analysis support, Study design and proposal writing, Primary and secondary data collection, Database design, security, and maintenance, Publishing, and communication
      2. Contact: Alec Chan Golston, achan-golston@ucmerced.edu
    2. Department of Animal Research Services (DARS)
      1. Overview: DARS is responsible for managing the facilities in which animals are maintained for teaching and research programs at the university
      2. Contact: Patrick Sharp, psharp2@ucmerced.edu
    3. Environmental Analytical Laboratory (EAL)
      1. Overview: The EAL is equipped with an array of state-of-the-art instrumentation and sample preparation equipment located at S&E I Room 201 (partial space) at the UC Merced main campus. It offers rapid and accurate measurements in environmental materials- including water, soil and biological samples—for major and trace elements, selected chemical species, nutrients and stable isotopes to meet a wide range of analytical needs in support of diverse research and education programs in environmental, chemical, biological, the Earth systems, ecological sciences, and engineering. Please browse the list of major instruments and their capabilities for details.
      2. Contact: TBD
    4. Imaging Microscopy Facility (IMF)
      1. Overview: The IMF suite hosts optical, scanning, and transmission electron microscopes and equipment for preparing specimens for examination. We serve campus researchers in the physical sciences, biological sciences, and engineering, and have a particular focus on nanotechnology. This facility offers students and researchers a range of materials characterization techniques, including advanced imaging, elemental analysis, and structure determination.
      2. Contact: Kennedy Nguyen, knguyen65@ucmerced.edu
    5. Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR)
      1. Overview: The UC Merced NMR facility provides access to Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Experiments for the UC Merced community and others. We provide three NMR instruments at two sites, on-campus and at Castle.
      2. Contact: Dave Rice, drice2@ucmerced.edu
    6. Stable Isotope Laboratory (SIELO)
      1. Overview: The Stable Isotope Laboratory at UC Merced includes two ThermoFisher Delta V Plus isotope ratio mass spectrometers (purchased in 2014) each with Conflo IV interfaces. Both have collectors for measuring hydrogen, oxygen, carbon, nitrogen, and sulfur isotopes; one of the instruments includes collectors for measuring 33S and 36S.
      2. Contact: Robin Trayler, rtrayler@ucmerced.edu
    7. Stem Cell Instrumentation Foundry (SCIF)
      1. Overview: The Stem Cell Instrumentation Foundry (SCIF) provides stem cell researchers at UC Merced and throughout California access to advanced instruments, techniques, and collaborators for single-cell analysis. The SCIF is housed in a 4260 sq ft facility which includes Class 1000 and 100 clean rooms for micro/nanofabrication, facilities for human and mouse stem cell culture, cell imaging, flow cytometry and cell sorting, and data workstations.
      2. Contact: David Gravano, dgravano@ucmerced.edu and Parveen Kumar, pkumar22@ucmerced.edu.
